Botox® Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox uses the neurotoxin OnabotulinumtoxinA to temporarily freeze muscle movement at the injection site. This powerful anesthetic paralyzes facial muscles to smooth wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming. Botox injections can even help ease or eliminate migraines and TMJ pain, prevent neck muscle spasms, and treat excessive sweating.

Which areas does Botox treat?

Unlike dermal fillers, which plump up wrinkles that have formed due to volume loss, Botox targets dynamic wrinkles — wrinkles that develop from repeated muscle movement. Some of the most common Botox treatment areas include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Marionette lines
  • Bunny lines around the nose
  • Brow lines

Smiling, laughing, frowning, or squinting can cause dynamic wrinkles over time. To smooth out these wrinkles and prevent them from returning, talk to the Trinity Health Center team about Botox injections.

What can I expect from a Botox treatment?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Said evaluates your skin to determine if Botox is the right wrinkle-reducing treatment for you. It’s important to talk to Dr. Said about what you’re hoping to achieve before he makes any recommendations.

Your first Botox appointment should only take about 30 minutes. Before administering the medication, Dr. Said will use a topical numbing ointment to ease your discomfort. Next, he injects the Botox directly into the muscle you want to treat.

While minor redness and inflammation are common Botox side effects, they typically subside within an hour of the treatment. Talk to Dr. Said if you experience persistent bruising or headaches after the first few days.

You should start seeing improvements in your skin within the first week of your Botox treatment. Any tightness or heaviness you feel in your face disappears after about two weeks. While the effects of Botox wear off gradually after about three months, you can return to Trinity Health Center for preventive Botox treatments a few times a year.

With regular maintenance, Botox keeps your skin looking young and fresh by preventing new wrinkles from forming. If you’re ready to try Botox injections, call Trinity Health Center.
