Radiesse Q&A

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is a dermal filler that uses calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres to add volume to wrinkles and folds in your skin. As you age, your skin naturally loses the collagen and elastin that kept it looking tight and youthful.

Not only does Radiesse restore lost skin volume, providing immediate results, it also stimulates collagen production to give you smoother, tighter skin for years to come. Because of its plumping effects, Radiesse injections are often recommended to patients who have suffered volume loss from illnesses like HIV.

Which areas does Radiesse treat?

Radiesse is a thicker gel than some alternative dermal fillers. That’s why it’s highly effective at treating deep wrinkles and saggy skin around the face.

Because Radiesse uses a thick gel base, Dr. Said doesn’t inject it into the lips or under the eyes. This practice helps ensure your results always look as natural as possible. The most popular Radiesse treatment areas include:

  • Cheek contours
  • Sunken temples
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Nasolabial folds around the nose
  • Neck lines
  • Jawline
  • Wrinkled hands

Since Radiesse also stimulates elastin and collagen production, these injections can also improve the tone and texture of your skin over time.

What can I expect from my Radiesse treatment?

It’s important to talk to Dr. Said about your cosmetic goals before deciding on Radiesse. During your initial consultation, he can evaluate your skin to determine if Radiesse is the right dermal filler to suit your needs. After Dr. Said maps out where to inject the fillers for the best results possible, he’ll schedule you for a second appointment.

When you come in for your Radiesse appointment, Dr. Said will use a local anesthetic to ease any pain or discomfort from the treatment. Next, he injects the filler directly into the targeted treatment area and gently massages it to ensure even distribution of the filler.

Depending on how many injections you need, your appointment could take 15 minutes or more. Radiesse requires no downtime, but you could experience minor swelling, redness, itching, or bruising after the treatment. These side effects are perfectly normal and should go away in a few days.

The effects of Radiesse typically last 12-18 months, but regular maintenance treatments can prolong your results.
